Founder Chris Bastiaansen’s parents were traditional tomato growers in the Netherlands. At the age of 20, Chris started his own commercial greenhouse operation. Drawing on hands-on knowledge, he began developing tools to improve crop production—such as tomato clips—and founded BATO (Bastiaansen Tomatoes). As demand grew, so did his injection molding capacity and product line. In 1996, BATO was sold, and Meteor Systems was established. Shortly after, the company expanded its production by pioneering the use of coated steel gutters for crop cultivation, an innovation that would set a new industry standard.
This practice-driven approach to innovation remains the foundation of the company today.
Meteor Systems designs and manufactures complete growing systems for professional horticulture worldwide. Its product portfolio includes irrigation systems, growing gutters, crop support materials, pipe rail systems, tunnel structures, and advanced water based and substrate free growing technologies. All products are developed and produced inhouse, from extrusion and injection molding to wire bending and roll forming on site.
